The research project, ‘Exploring Factors that Enhance and restrict Women’s Empowerment through Electrification’ (EFEWEE) is supported by DFID and ENERGIA. It aims to examine the factors that enhance or restrict women's opportunities and empowerment through electrification both as users and as actors in electricity provision and will recommend policies, strategies and project design for enhancing women's empowerment.

So far the project has conducted fieldwork in Kenya, India and Nepal.

World Bank gets an Advisor on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues

On October 27, 2016, World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim announced Clifton Cortez as the Bank’s Advisor on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) issues – a newly created senior position responsible for promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) inclusion throughout the work of the World Bank.

Based on the French statistics that women earn 19% less them male counterparts, they are symbolically representing it as the equivalent that from 4.34pm, women are basically working for free.
