A colleague from the research department recently shared the second report on Lions on the Move. I recall the first report being considered as groundbreaking on the Progress and Potential of African Economies so despite the usual work load on our respective desks, I was interested in reading through the second edition to learn more about the latest economic trends in Africa, the driving sectors and the performing countries. While it may be recommended as a must-read for its global and extensive data analysis, I couldn’t help but notice that it remains silent on gender equality or women’s empowerment… Compared to youth, technology, resources, and small business, among other drivers described in specific sections, are women and their contribution considered too micro to be part of the “realization of the potential of Africa’s economies”? Or how is it that women are not part of the picture, once again?
